What future for the Kraainem recycling park?

Permanent closure or not? A section of the new F202 cycle path encroaches on the grounds of the recycling park, preventing it from being reopened there.

The land on which the landfill was historically located does not belong to the commune, which was presented with a fait accompli. Possibilities of reopening the site at other locations in the commune are being examined, but few places are actually available for this use.

The current situation of sharing the Wezembeek-Oppem landfill has fortunately been helping the citizens of Kraainem for several months. Since April, many citizens – who were more likely to stay at home – have made extensive use of this service, which has led to long queues and the introduction of an Internet reservation system (for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Tuesday remaining free) that is working well.

In future, the situation will be constantly monitored, and opening times may be extended if necessary. For more information, visit https://www.interza.be
In the meantime, the municipality is continuing discussions with the various parties (Interza, AWV, VMM, etc.) to find a lasting solution for the residents of Kraainem.
