Streets and neighborhoods open to local traffic
The redevelopment of Rue des Tulipes and Rue des Seringas was decided during the 2012-2018 legislature (when Kraainem-Unie was still in opposition). Information sessions were organized by the municipality, during which the various redevelopment options were presented and local residents were able to make comments and ask questions. A residential street for Rue des Seringas and speed reduction measures in Rue des Tulipes were decided at the time. Mobility measures had to be implemented simultaneously on both streets to prevent through traffic from shifting from one street to the other.
Meanwhile, work on rue des Seringas is now complete. Work on rue des Tulipes is behind schedule (due to a change of plan for the sewer system in Clos des Tulipes and avenue des Muguets) and should start this autumn.
Following the redevelopment, both streets have become local traffic areas, as has the “quartier des oiseaux”, where further improvements are planned to limit speeding and parasitic traffic.
