The convent of the Sisters of the Visitation in Kraainem becomes a guest house

In recent years, the sisters still living at the Monastère de la Visitation (avenue Hébron 5) have found it increasingly difficult to maintain this vast estate. Various project proposals have been put forward to give a new future to the listed site, which is partly located in the Kraainem and Zaventem areas. The community of the Cloister of the Visitation finally decided to sell the whole site (the former convent and the land) to the Querton family, who will give it a social and charitable function, aimed primarily at helping children and mothers in need.

Flats-services at the Monastère de la Visitation: what’s the status of the project?

The planned construction of 80 flats-services adjacent to the Monastère de la Visitation (corner avenue Hébron – rue de la Chapelle), a protected monument, is causing considerable concern among local residents. They were very active in putting their objections in writing or signing a petition during the public inquiry. In the meantime, GECORO (Gemeentelijke Commissie voor Ruimtelijke Ordening) has issued a negative (non-binding) opinion, along the same lines as the residents’ criticisms. You can read the arguments put forward by GECORO on our website, where we also explain the rest of the procedure – rather unusual, given that two municipalities, Kraainem and Zaventem, are affected by the project.
