Le 24 août 2024, s’est tenu un bel événement rempli de traditions ukrainiennes au Cinquantenaire à Bruxelles.

Het was een eer en genoegen om te spreken in het bijzijn van de Ambassadeur van Oekraïne en zoveel opmerkelijke individuen die elk op hun eigen manier bijdragen aan de bescherming van Oekraïne en Europa.

Шановні пані та панове!

Сьогодні ми зібралися тут, щоб відзначити важливу подію – День Незалежності України.

Дозвольте висловити підтримку всім українцям, які залишилися в Україні. Ми захоплюємося вашою силою та відвагою, і ми стоїмо поруч з вами в цей важкий час.

Від самого початку повномасштабного військового вторгнення Росії на територію України, Бельгія надає свою підтримку та допомогу Україні, зокрема військову. Дуже важливо продовжувати це робити.

Якщо ми не будемо продовжувати допомагати Україні, то ми приймемо факт загарбання Росією території України. У будь-якому разі ми не можемо цього допустити.

Сьогодні є нагода подякувати усім тим, хто допомагав і допомагає українцям, про яку допомогу б не йшлося.

Сьогодні, як і щодня, дякуємо також всім, хто стоїть на захисті як України, так і всієї Європи! Дякуємо за можливість жити, працювати і розвиватися під мирним небом.

Як і завжди, я сподіваюся, що війна скоро закінчиться і що ви зможете повернутися додому. А поки ми дуже раді мати змогу приймати вас у Бельгії.

Попри складнІ обставини я вітаю вас з Днем Незалежності України!

Я бажаю вам гарно провести час.

Independence Day of Ukraine Bertrand Waucquez, 2024-08-24

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

We are here today to celebrate an important event – Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Let me express our support to all Ukrainians who remain in Ukraine. We admire your strength and courage, and we stand with you in this difficult time.

From the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, Belgium has been providing its support and assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance. It is very important that we continue to do so.

If we do not continue to help Ukraine, then we will accept the fact that Russia has taken over the territory of Ukraine. In any case, we cannot allow this to happen.

Today is an opportunity to thank all those who have helped and are helping Ukrainians, no matter what kind of help we are talking about.

Today, as every day, we also thank all those who stand in defence of both Ukraine and the whole of Europe! Thank you for the opportunity to live, work and develop under peaceful skies.

As always, I hope that the war will end soon and that you will be able to return home. In the meantime, we are very pleased to be able to host you in Belgium.

Despite the difficult circumstances, I wish you a very happy Independence Day!
